A growing interest in Electromechanical Brakes (EMBs) is discernible the automotive industry. Nevertheless, no EMBs have ever been deployed for series production, although countless publications made, and patents filed. One reason this need optimization of functional safety. Due to missing mechanical/hydraulic link between driver actuator, sophisticated concepts be elaborated upon. This paper presents current state art safety EMB systems (only publicly available are reviewed). An analysis regulatory requirements conducted provide a base design options. These options explored on basis an extensive patent literature research.
